सामतोल (Samtol)
Many years ago, whilst leading an international project, we had to decide on a conference location. The team of 5 people making this decision were culturally and nationally diverse. Naturally, we came up with over 5 different venues, and spent time loudly arguing about which was the best. "Stop!" I said. I then introduced a decision process to use. Within half an hour, a location had been chosen.
As we were packing up for the day, I asked one team member whether he was happy with the decision. I will never forget his answer: He said "No, not happy. But now I understand the decision, and I am a part of the team who made it together". This was my first experience of how brain based methods can be used to increase communication and performance in the business world.
I have not looked back since.
I am a multicultural leader for safety-critical, process-driven and complex systems, in industries such as medical technology and aerospace My experience in this area has taught me that there is always a fine line between stability and chaos. As an interim manager, I strive to achieve a balance between all strategic, organisational, cultural and operational aspects in every company I come into contact with.
As a tribute to my roots, I use the word सामतोल (meaning ‘balance’, pronounced ‘Samtol’ in Konkani, the language of Goa, India) to represent this pursuit of balance. I hope to bring this attitude into all aspects of my work. Below and in my LinkedIn profile , you will find further details about my professional background.
